Sir Alex Ferguson had afew special players in the Manchester United goal during his time in the Old Trafford dugout from Peter Schmeichel to Edwin Van Der Sar. However, he also had goalkeepers who made high-profile errors in the Manchester United goal. Northern Ireland shot stopper Roy Carroll, French World Cup winning goalkeeper Fabian Barthez andDavid De Gea all made high-profile errors at Old Trafford while Sir Alex Ferguson was the Manchester United manager. One of the most calamitous moments at Old Trafford in the Premier League era was when Manchester United goalkeeper Massimo Taibiallowed a weak shot from Matt Le Tissier of Southampton to squirm through his legs and into the back of the net.

Taibi was a flop at Manchester United and he has since claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson begged him to stay when he was about to leave the club.

Manchester United signed Italian shot stopper Massimo Taibi shortly after the great Peter Schmeichel left the club in 1999. The Red Devils paid a princely sum of £4.5m to sign him and he went on to make just four appearances for the club before leaving in the following year.

Sir Alex Ferguson had just won the Champions League title for the first time as a manager when he signed Taibi. Manchester United had to come from behind to score twice in stoppage time and seal a memorable 2-1 win over German team Bayern Munich at the Nou Camp. The win over Bayern made Manchester United European champions for the second time.
